Carmella’s Market, formerly Gloria’s Food Store, is a beloved Italian-American market located in the Jeffries Point neighborhood of East Boston, MA.
The store first opened its doors in 1927, founded by a Greek family from South Boston. In the 1960s, it was purchased by the Russo family, who proudly ran the business until the late 1970s. At that time, the store was taken over by Jerry Del Prete, who became a fixture in the community and operated the market until 2012, when he sold it to Clark Moulaison Jr.
Clark continued the tradition for a decade before retiring in 2022, passing the torch to his younger brother, Nick Moulaison Sr. Under Nick’s leadership, Carmella’s Market has entered an exciting new chapter, with thoughtful updates and improvements designed to serve both longtime Eastie residents and the neighborhood’s newer, diverse community.
